The ‘cast your vote’ for these contests is a formal expression of opinion or choice, made by an individual user of pinshape. When it comes time to ‘judge’ the contests listed above. Only the judging criteria, listed above, will be used in the final determination to whom prizes are awarded.

Yup to clarify on Chris’ point, the judges are handed an Excel sheet, filtered to entries that make the final judging round.
The public “liking” is to engage the community, and allow them to show support for a designer they personally really like, or a design they particularly admire.
You’re definitely right that if this was simply a popularity contest (when we first started contests, we allowed for public voting like this to determine winners. But we learned from our early mistakes!), it would result in quite a bit of cheating/unfairness!
