Can't upload GIFs

Every time I try to upload a GIF it seems to timeout. I get 504 errors (gateway timeout) in my JS console if that helps.

I’m trying to upload this GIF:

Also trying to make it the “main image”.

What can I do to get this GIF uploaded?

I was finally able to upload a gif but it took many, many tries. I also had to shrink it down to about ~650kb which definitely doesn’t look as nice.

You should clarify what–if any–limits are applied to animated gifs. Also probably allow the equivalent in HTML5 video (mp4 and webm).

Tips to fix if you can’t upload GIFs-

  1. Deactivate Image Optimization Plugins.
  2. Disable Images SEO Plugin.
  3. Increase Memory Limit.
  4. Ask Your Web Host.
  5. Remove Special Characters From Image File Name.
